Thank you for this insightful and compassionate guide, Andy. Your personal experience and practical techniques offer a sense of hope and empowerment to those navigating panic attacks. It's refreshing to see mental health discussed with such honesty and clarity. This post is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand and manage their anxiety. Grateful for your work in making these conversations more accessible.
Andy, what a *fantastic* post about panic attacks, and its awful cousin, anxiety. Every suggestion that you mention has worked wonders in my life.
By the way, since you frown on psychiatric medications (which merely mask symptoms rather than deal with root causes), have you ever heard of the book "A Mind of Your Own," by Kelly Brogan? She's a former traditional psychiatrist who saw the light and now writes and speaks about holistic methods that actually work, while absolutely trashing the conventional psychiatric powers that be. Give it a go, if/when you get a chance.
BTW #2: Your mention of cold exposure reminds me of Wim Hof, who, among other things, has popularized ice baths, as well as a breathing technique that has really gained traction. Look that "crazy" Dutchman up as well.
I enjoy reading your helpful, empowering posts. Thank you for helping so many!
Larry, thank you so much for the kind words. And I’m glad you’ve figured out what’s worked for you already!
I’ve heard of the book but haven’t read it. But this is a good push I need to move it to the top of my list.
Wim Hof is who got my ex into cold plunging, which is who got me into cold plunging. I’ve noticed huge benefits here and nothing feels better than hot yoga followed by a cold plunge or cold shower!
